Curriculum Design and Course Mapping
In some institutions, adjunct faculty are presented with the syllabus from a course developed by someone else and tasked with building an online course based on it, or adopting a previous instance of an online course to their own teaching style. Beyond the challenge of mastering a new learning management system to effectively present material, field assignments, and provide formative and summative feedback, faculty must "reverse-engineer" the syllabus to understand how objectives, activities, assessments, and measurement methods align by week. A document that summarizes these connections is known as a Course Map, as an instance of a Curriculum Map. Some programs may not even maintain curriculum maps, so it is difficult to assess program learning outcomes that a course must ensure. These documents below are instances and templates for reverse-engineering course maps from syllabi.
